About Phil

Phil can currently be heard regularly on Sky Sports in the UK and live around the world covering matches from the English Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, EFL, FA Cup Cup, Major League Soccer, Eredivisie and international qualifiers amongst many others.  He is also a familiar voice to a worldwide radio audience as one of the lead commentators for talkSPORT's international service broadcasting live Premier League matches and on UEFA's Champions League Matchday Live show.

Prior to his freelance television career Phil was the sports editor for GCap Media then Global Radio providing commentaries and content for their nationwide network of stations ranging from Capital FM to Classic FM and hosted shows for Capital Gold and LBC.  He covered a range of major events on site, including Champions League finals, FA Cup finals, England internationals and 2 World Cups.

Phil started his career as a member of the Sports team at BBC Radio York after winning their BBC Radio "Young Commentator of the Year" competition aged 16. He went on to work as a commentator on York City (his boyhood team) and Scarborough matches as well as reporting on matches for BBC Look North TV and other local BBC Stations. He trained in broadcast journalism at Nottingham Trent University before moving to London where he's been based since 2000.

Away from commentating Phil, married to Claire and Dad to Jessica and Alfie, has also had a role in a Bollywood movie 'Gold' and is a published children's author with debut book Jessica and the Neighbour, based on his daughter, out now! Jessica and the Neighbour by Phil Blacker (pegasuspublishers.com)
